Alex and the Terrible, Horrible, No-Good, Very Bad Day
on July 14, 2011 at 8:24 AMSome of you might have seen on Facebook, or some of you might have seen on Twitter, but for those who missed it, I was in a car accident yesterday morning. I’m okay, as is the other driver, and I just have some minor injuries from my seat belt, and the airbag deploying. It was my fault, and I don’t feel like talking about the actual event any more than that, because I feel terrible both physically and emotionally.
Unfortunately, my car is probably totaled. I live in a city that’s pretty navigable with public transportation, and I’ve used it many times while my car’s been at the mechanic and such, but this is still a hugely stressful situation for me, since I relied on my car for so many things. It’s going to be a little while until I can get a replacement, since I have very little money saved up, and some of that will be eaten up by my citation and other expenses that will surely stem from the accident.
Right now, I’m not sure what this means for my trip to Otakon in two weeks. I’m going to do everything I can to get there, and I’m considering several options; renting a car, shipping my merchandise and flying, et cetera. Right now, renting a car for the weekend seems to be my cheapest option, which will run me about 200 bucks, depending on what kind of vehicle I choose. I’m avoiding flying if at all possible, since that would lay a burden on my Baltimore relatives to transport me to and from the con every day, all weekend.
Anyways, please send some good karma my way as I figure out what I’m going to do next.

Glad to hear you and the other driver are okay. I had my own car accident years ago (husband hit a patch of grass and we spun out over two lanes and into a ditch). No matter how big or small it is, it’s definitely something you don’t forget. But you’re still walking and you’re still alive. That’s the most important thing.
Beaming lots of good fortune your way. I hope you make it to Otakon!
I’m going to to out on a limb and say that an unassuming donate button somewhere on the page could help defray the cost of renting that car a bit.
Awww… I was just in a fender bender myself this year (first one) so I know how much it shakes you up. I send all my luck your way, and hope things work out <3
Glad no one was majorly injured!
glad to hear no one was seriously hurt. sending good vibes!
